Book Description
An arranged marriage was never what Callum Darrington, future Duke of Edinbane, imagined for himself. But with the well-being of his uncle’s family hanging in the balance, Callum strikes a bargain with his father and reluctantly agrees to tie himself to a stranger. The reality of the lovely Lady Katherine is more than he could have hoped for, and their wedding heralds a bright new future for the couple—until Callum discovers his father deliberately deceived him. Callum lashes out, setting in motion heartbreak not even he could have foreseen.
Four years later, Callum is ready to piece together the marriage he so carelessly destroyed. But their years apart have hardened Kate: she is not the naive and trusting young woman she once was, and she has no intention of allowing Callum a foothold in her life or her heart. Despite her coldness, Callum works to regain her trust and rebuild their marriage, not realizing Kate harbors a secret that could change everything—and this time, there is much more at stake than just her
heart.
My Review
Seldom is there book where you fight yourself about whether or not you like the hero. Callum starts out wonderful, bad relationship with his father, but an overall good guy. What happens next has me feeling right along with Kate, empty, betrayed, and alone...and not loving Callum.
Kate is as strong as they come, following a long with an arranged marriage because she trusted her grandfather. When betrayed she comes into her own, finding a way to move on and builds a wall to never trust again.
I love this story of a married couple, with frankly few choices, finding their way back to friendship and maybe more. It is a healing story, full of beautiful as well as gut wrenching emotion. The descriptions in the book held me captive and made me fall for the highlands and learn my own lessons in forgiveness and healing.
If anyone deserved happiness it is Kate and if anyone needed to give that to her, it was Callum. I very much loved this story and look forward to reading it again. Definitely a five star read, which I have come to expect to this autobuy author.
I received an early eARC from the publisher and this is my honest review.
About the Author
At a young age Heidi perfected the art of hiding out so she could read instead of doing chores. One husband and three daughters later, not much has changed. She has an abiding love for peanut butter M&Ms, all things fall, and any book that can make her forget she’s supposed to be keeping her children alive.
Heidi recently received an offer to publish her first book, “Mended Affections,” and is enjoying the thrill of the author roller coaster ride. She lives just outside of Dallas, Texas.
